Kyoto day 2 - part II
After the bamboo of Arashiyama we wondered around looking for a taxi to take us to out next chosen temple: Otagi nenbutsu-ji.
This place didn't figure on any of the lists of temples to see in Kyoto, but we were super intrigued by some photos D found online and when we found it to be close to Arashiyama, we put it on our plan.
Finding a taxi was not easy and when we found one, he didn't know of the temple (we didn't have the named spelled in Japanese characters).
We compared our google map with his gps and found the temple only a short drive up the mountain.
In contrast to Arashiyama there were hardly any tourists there and instead we could in peace and quiet study the faces of the more than 1200 stone statues representing the disciples of Buddha. It was an amazing sight with the statues covering the hillside and made a great impression on us.
